Visa to license 20,000 more businesses in Kenya

Visa and Direct Pay Online Group (DPO) have announced they are enabling 20,000 more merchants to accept mVisa payments, facilitating mobile commerce in Kenya.

“Visa’s partnership with Direct Pay Online is an important milestone in our mission to enable digital commerce across Africa,” said Sunny Walia, General Manager, East Africa for Visa in a statement.

Enrolled merchants will receive a unique QR code that customers can scan to make mobile payments such that funds move within the banking system into their account at no extra cost. Consumers control the payment using either a QR scan for smart phones or a USSD code for feature phones, and they can send money anywhere in the world that mVisa is accepted.

Consumers will be able to use Visa’s innovative, secure and interoperable mobile payment solution at leading airlines, hotels, travel agents and tour operators across the country.
